Following last week’s post ‘Yearbook page ideas – News and Headlines (part 1)’, here are some examples of news headlines you could use in your yearbook:

  • January 2010 – Avatar became the highest grossing film of all time, overtaking Titanic by a margin of more than 15 million US dollars
  • April 2010 – A BP oil platform exploded releasing up to 260 million gallons of crude oil into the Gulf of Mexico
  • July 2010 – Spain won the world cup
  • August 2010 – Chilean Miners were rescued after being trapped underground for 69 days
  • The world’s tallest building was opened – the Khalifa tower, known as Burj Dubai
  • An Icelandic Volcano erupted, sending a volcanic ash cloud into the atmosphere which disrupted flights throughout the region.
  • Best selling single of 2010 – ‘Love the way you lie’ by Eminem ft. Rihanna

  • British writer EL James’s Fifty Shades of Grey sold over 60m copies and was voted the most popular book of 2012

  • It was announced that the Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby – who will someday be king or queen.

Headlines and Events 2013 so far!

  • Snow! Heavy snow fell over much of Britain in January 2013, causing widespread travel disruption on the roads, railways and at airports. Many parts of the UK were still having snow into March 2013.
  • The Harlem Shake was a big YouTube craze
  • February 2013 – Pope Benedict XVI announced resignation
  • March 2013 – inauguration of the new Pope Francis
  • April 2013 – Margaret Thatcher passed away
