Yearbook page ideas – News and Headlines (part 2)

Following last week’s post ‘Yearbook page ideas – News and Headlines (part 1)’, here are some examples of news headlines you could use in your yearbook:

  • July 2008 – The Dark Knight Rises released – movie-goers flocked in their droves making this the No. 2 movie of all-time behind Titanic
  • August 2008 – ­ The 2008 Olympic Games began in Beijing, China
  • September 2008 – we started at <insert school name here>
  • November 2008 – Twilight was released, grossing $35.7 million on its opening day
  • Best selling single of 2008 – Hallelujah by Alexandra Burke

  • January 2010 – A 7.0-magnitude earthquake, struck Haiti and devastated its capital Port-au-Prince, one of the deadliest natural disasters on record. More than 3 million people were affected with an estimated death toll of more than 230,000
  • January 2010 – Avatar became the highest grossing film of all time, overtaking Titanic by a margin of more than 15 million US dollars
  • April 2010 – A BP oil platform exploded releasing up to 260 million gallons of crude oil into the Gulf of Mexico
  • July 2010 – Spain won the world cup
  • August 2010 – Chilean Miners were rescued after being trapped underground for 69 days
  • The world’s tallest building was opened – the Khalifa tower, known as Burj Dubai
  • An Icelandic Volcano erupted, sending a volcanic ash cloud into the atmosphere which disrupted flights throughout the region.
  • Best selling single of 2010 – ‘Love the way you lie’ by Eminem ft. Rihanna

  • July 2012 – South Korean star PSY’s Gangnam Style became a worldwide hit
  • August 2012 – London 2012 Paralympics
  • August 2012 – Neil Armstrong passed away at the age of 82
  • September 2012Nick Grimshaw took over from Chris Moyles as host of the Radio 1 breakfast show
  • October 2012Hurricane Sandy swept across the Caribbean and America’s east coast
  • October 2012 – The new James Bond film ‘Skyfall’ was released
  • November 2012 – Barack Obama was re-elected as American President
  • December 2012 – James Arthur won The X Factor!
  • British writer EL James’s Fifty Shades of Grey sold over 60m copies and was voted the most popular book of 2012
  • Best selling single of 2012 – Somebody that I used to know by Gotye ft. Kimbra
  • It was announced that the Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby – who will someday be king or queen.

Headlines and Events 2013 so far!

  • Snow! Heavy snow fell over much of Britain in January 2013, causing widespread travel disruption on the roads, railways and at airports. Many parts of the UK were still having snow into March 2013.
  • The Harlem Shake was a big YouTube craze
  • February 2013 – Pope Benedict XVI announced resignation
  • March 2013 – inauguration of the new Pope Francis
  • April 2013 – Margaret Thatcher passed away
