10 Top Tips for creating a great yearbook

While in principle organising the yearbook is quite straightforward, good organisation will lead to the best possible finished book. This 10-point guide will help you make a start:

1. Gauge initial interest. Get a teacher to mention it in assembly.

2. Get together and form a yearbook committee. Decide on a role for each committee member – if you have a representative from each tutor group, then each member could be responsible for getting content for their own group.

3. Choose your design method. We have 5 superb options to choose from: SPC Yearbook Creator, Gold, Silver, Bronze and DIY. At this point, you can probably set a budget. Note that hardback costs a little more, so it’s a good idea to make a decision about the cover at an early stage.

4. Timescales. Take into account our timescales to ensure your Yearbook will be delivered when you need it.

5. Plan out what you would like to include in the yearbook and set deadlines for gathering material. If you are doing the design yourself (e.g. with SPC Yearbook Creator), it is a good idea to start looking at _style_s and layouts to make sure your content will work. If you are working towards an early order discount, make sure you leave time for the next stage.

6. Check through and organize your material. Make sure you have all the photos and comments you need and that they are all typed up and edited where necessary. You should now be ready to send the material to us if we are doing the design work for you.

7. Order. Send us a completed order form, a school purchase order and all of your yearbook material. Please send by recorded delivery to avoid anything going missing – we really wouldn’t want that to happen!

8. Proof. We will send you a proof of your yearbook. This is your chance to check over it and mark up any changes that you would like made. If there are no changes then it will go straight to print. If there are changes to be made, you can either see another proof or have it go to straight to print once the changes have been made. Set yourself a deadline for getting amendments back to us to avoid unnecessary delays.

9. Delivery. Enjoy your yearbooks and cherish them forever. Why not call us to let us know what you think?

10. Have fun making your Yearbook!!
